Proverbs 28:14 ESV

Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always,

but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

In this verse, God gives us two choice with the corresponding consequence: fear Him and be blessed, or harden our heart and fall into calamity. What's fearing God? It means love and do what are good, while shuning what are evil. It also means we follow God's words and His advices, while rejecting the world's advices.

God's advices and good things are aimed for slow but enduring gain, for a safe and peaceful life. That's a blessed life.

On the other hand. The world's advices and evil things aim for quick but fleeting gain, a risky and evil life with many enemies. Whoever choose this way will eventually fall into calamity.
