James 5:12 ESV
But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
Those who swear but not keep it will be condemned by God. God designed swearing or taking oath for important issues in life, such as marriage, ordinance, or civil service. Swear is not for daily issues.
Why do we have to swear? Is it because our normal "yes" is not trustable enough? If we cannot keep our "yes", can we keep our swear? So the safest way is to not swear at all, just keep our "yes" and build up our credibility. That's the advice of God, and the true wisdom.
