James 1:13-15 ESV

Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

God never tempts us, although He may test us by allowing trials and temptations to come to us. We are tempted by Satan as he lures and entices us using our own desires. An evil desire, if not mortified, gives birth to sin. If we do not confess & repent from sin, but continue to abide in it, it will grow and bring forth death.

Therefore, we must continually guard and check our heart. If we start having evil desires, we must shun it and seek strength via prayers to keep our thoughts and our heart pure. If our evil desires materialized to sinful actions, we must turn away from it and repent, confess and seek forgiveness from God.

Abiding in sin leads to dead and isolation from God. Continually guarding and checking our heart prevent this and keep our life and our rightstanding with God.
