Matthew 5:14-16 ESV

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Light shines and enlightens the world. It gives every creatures warm and guidance. Jesus is calling all Christians to be a light in this fallen world, to show Godly love that gives warm, and to preach God's Word that gives guidance. Hiding  a lamp under a basket makes it useless, which may even put out the light. Similarly, hiding & not practicing God's Word anh Godly spirit makes a Christians useless and keeps us from growing.

Also, as we show Godly spirit and practice God's Word, people who don't know Him will see His glory in us and glorify Him. And from that, they may come to Him and to His Kingdom.
