Proverbs 28:13 ESV
Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
Our human sinful nature likes to hide and deny our transgressions. In this verse, God warns us that thus sinful tendency will ruin us. We cannot prosper by hiding our failures and transgression. Doing so, we leave holes & weaknesses in our foundation which will cause our downfall somedays.
Instead, we need to confess our sins and forsake them, repent and avoid making the same mistake again. That will give us a solid foundation to prosper.
Moreover, God promises whoever confess and repent will obtain mercy, and will be given help and strength to overcome the weakness that cause them to err.
